Triban Abyss RC100 Aluminum Road Bike Review
I was a huge fan of decathlon and was eternally sad when they decided to leave the US with their flagship stores in San Francisco and the East Bay. Luckily, I was able to get one of their bikes for a test ride to write up a Triban Abyss RC100 Aluminum Road Bike Review before they headed out of the states and really enjoyed the experience.
When I rode the Triban Abyss RC100, the main thing that I thought was that this is a smooth ride, and a perfect light commuter bike for the complete beginner to start with. Any readers interested in the Triban Abyss RC100 Aluminum Road Bike Review you ought to read on.

Triban Abyss RC100 Aluminum Road Bike Review
There are plenty of things that we liked and could have been improved upon with the Triban Abyss RC100. The biggest double edged sword is the gear ratio set up for the bicycle. The Triban Abyss has a single chainring in the front and a 7 speed cassette in the back. There are reasons why this is good, and reasons why this can leave a entry level biker wanting more.
The single chainring in the front allows cyclists more time to learn about how the cassette functions and how to troubleshoot problems with the cassette should they have any.
Learning to make adjustments to a chainring and a cassette at the same time can be a challenge for beginners, and the RC100 provides just the right type of simple frame to help those that want to get their feet wet with gearing, be able to.
The other side of having a single gear for your chainring is that if you are faced with steep uphill work very often, then you will struggle to keep pace as the ratios simply are not enough to maintain a good cadence while riding uphill.
To be frank, there are still single speed bikers riding (and thriving) around San Francisco, though if you are looking for a hill climbing machine, this may not be the right choice.
If you are looking for a reasonably priced commuter bike that has enough functionality to get you to and from work without having any problems when the time is needed to get a tune-up, then this is the choice for you.
What do we like about the Triban Abyss RC100 Aluminum Road Bike?
What is most likeable about the Triban Abyss is the weight. It’s useful to not only get your bike down stairs, into cars and out the door – but it also is noticeable when you are riding.
The amount of effort it takes to get the Triban up to speed in comparison to other steel frames that we have ridden is noticeably minimal.
You also feel this if you are going on longer 10+ mile rides, where your body does not have any wear on itself as you are riding.
What don’t we like about the Triban Abyss RC100 Aluminum Road Bike?
The main thing that we spoke of before, and the largest drawback is the chain system. This bicycle is purely a great bicycle for commuting on relatively flat ground. If I were to use it for my rides that I do throughout the week outside of the city, I would make it, though it would not be pretty.
There are plenty of reasons why a single chainring is good – simplicity, ease of repair, ease of maintenance – though again, if hill-work is what is important to you, it may be advisable to look the opposite way.
