I have an In-N-Out sticker on one of my bikes that I absolutely love. However, my auntie decided that I need to give my bike to my little cousin. Yet another great idea from my aunt that causes me to do more work. She also asked me to take the sticker off because it didn’t fit their personality. This In-N-Out sticker has been on the front tubing of the bike for the last 22 years. So the first thought that comes to mind is I need to know how to remove stickers from bike – and doing it correctly so my little cousin is happy.

In this post we will go over the 3 simple steps I took to remove a clinging sticker that I thought was going to be impossible to remove. Even though the sticker truly went Zen-master buddha on me and became the bike, I still was able to get the sticker off and the bicycle paint was not chipped.

How do you remove stickers from a bike without damaging paint?

The main way that I found to do this is by using a combination of these three items. This process for the one sticker took me about 30 minutes:

  • Hair Dryer
  • Paper Towel
  • Plastic Plier Tools: These are just awesome to have in your home for any repairs in general. I do small car repairs, repair to cabinets, and small crafts with these when I need pliers or something sharp that will not scratch or damage the surface that I am working on. Alternatively, a plastic card can work as an alternative if you are working on even paint, though it is not recommended because not all plastic cards are made the same.
  • Rubbing Alcohol: Rubbing Alcohol dissolves the plastic adhesive. It dissolves plastic adhesive the same way that Dawn dissolves grease stains out of clothing and your hands.

Here are the steps that I took to remove the stickers from my bike without damaging the paint:

  1. Turn on some music. You’re going to be here for a bit of time.
  2. Turn on the hairdryer to the hottest setting. The purpose of this is to warm the sticker adhesive underneath which will weaken the bond.
  3. Run the hairdryer for about 1-2 minutes. You should physically be able to feel the bicycle body warm up under the bicycle.
  4. Use the plastic plier tool of your choice to peel the sticker off of the bicycle frame. Give yourself some elbow grease and patience during the process.
    1. Note: This is simply the first step. Your goal is to get the majority of the top layer off of the sticker.
  5. Take a paper towel and rub a liberal amount of rubbing alcohol onto the sticker residue.
  6. After soaked, you should be able to scrape away the rest of the residue. If not, repeat step 5 and 6, adding more heat from the hair dryer where you feel necessary.

Conclusion

Removing stickers from your bike frame is easy if you want to know how to remove stickers from bike. You want to use a combination of heat to warm and weaken the adhesive, rubbing alcohol to break apart the adhesive chemically, and elbow grease to rub it away without placing any wear on the paint.
